Boom Times Ahead For Industrial Robots

Bruce Upbin
VP Strategic Communications, Hyperloop One

Hyperloop One has made a priority of investing in automation tools to help us produce the components and structures of the world's next mode of transport. Obviously, we're not alone. As this infographic from Politico Pro shows, industrial bots are setting record annual sales, especially among manufacturers. The United States is now the fourth-largest market in the world for industrial robots and is projected to continue breaking annual sales records. Like a lot of advanced manufacturing companies, we don't see robots as a replacement for human labor (we've added dozens of jobs in technical roles and machining trades) but as a necessity both to maintain the precision we need and to drive down our production costs to make Hyperloop transportation a more competitive value than existing transport modes. The bots have as much to teach us as we have to teach them. (Click image to open larger view.)
