Virgin Hyperloop One & The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Unveiled The Initial Design of the Dubai Hyperloop Pod As Part of UAE Innovation Month
Visitors to the City Walk Dubai this week glimpsed of the future of travel and got the chance to walk through an initial design of the Dubai hyperloop pod. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), unveiled the pod which was exhibited as part of the RTA’s participation in the UAE Innovation Month.
The Dubai hyperloop pod is a full-scale, immersive structure that enables the public to explore a hyperloop experience from the traveler’s perspective. It was the result of a collaborative effort between Virgin Hyperloop One and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and was recently visited by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.
“The hyperloop is part of RTA’s initiatives for Dubai Future Accelerators. RTA and Virgin Hyperloop One Company have made considerable progress in the technical, engineering and economic feasibility study of the project. Progress made also included identifying the routes for operating the hyperloop along with its initial design model, which will be exhibited for the first time in the world,” said HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
“The hyperloop boasts of deluxe interiors, cutting-edge broadcasting & display of information and entertainment materials as well as leather seats. The hyperloop technology uses an electromagnetic propulsion system to accelerate the movement of goods and services through a vacuum tube. Accordingly, the hyperloop can travel between Dubai and Abu Dhabi in 12 minutes, and lift about 10,000 passengers per hour in both directions,” continued Al Tayer.
“The UAE and RTA were early supporters of our hyperloop technology, so it is particularly exciting to be unveiling the Dubai hyperloop pod with the RTA as part of UAE Innovation Month,” said Rob Lloyd, CEO of Virgin Hyperloop One. “Our focus in 2018 would be continuing the close collaboration with RTA to progress to the next phase of the project.”
According to Harj Dhaliwal, Virgin Hyperloop One’s Managing Director of the Middle East and India, "the Dubai hyperloop pod was a culmination of the collaborative partnership of our Phase 1 work with the RTA which included feasibility studies of potential hyperloop routes in Dubai. We now look forward to partnering on Phase 2 work with the RTA and the Dubai Government with the goal of exploring evaluating and developing a wider hyperloop network in the UAE."
